SM Cargo agents today voted for IAM-representation

August 17, 2016

In a representation election overseen by the National Mediation Board (NMB), approximately 250 SM Cargo agents voted overwhelmingly, to be represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

The victorious cargo agents, who work at IAH, began their quest for IAM representation this spring in a campaign that was spearheaded by a true unionist and Local Lodge 811 member, Scott McClung who worked hand in hand with soon to be District Lodge 141 Vice President East, Victor Hernandez. With Brother Scott and Victor’s guidance these cargo agents attained the requisite “showing of interest” shortly thereafter. The NMB announced the results of the representation election today.

“I congratulate and welcome the cargo agents at SM Cargo for seeking and earning the dignity, respect and fairness they deserve.” Said IAM District 141 President Mike Klemm. “Along with thanking Scott McClung and Victor Hernandez for their efforts, I’d also like to thank the following IAM members for their incredible hard work for without, this campaign would not have been successful, District 141 Assistant General Chairman Jorge Bonilla, DL communicator Eric Price, DL Special Representative Robert Jesel, Carlos Ayala and Maria Rodriquez. Furthermore I’d like to thank General Vice President Sito Pantoja who supported the campaign from day one and provided us with guidance through Grand Lodge Representative Richie Johnsen whose leadership was instrumental.”
