Overall compensation is essentially the total package of benefits and earnings you receive from your employer for the work you do. It's a blend of various forms of payment and benefits tailored to reward and support employees in multifaceted ways. This mix can include a variety of elements, such as:

Base Wages: The fixed salary or hourly pay you receive.

Profit Sharing: Bonus payments based on the company's profitability.

Health Care Benefits: Contributions to health insurance to manage medical costs.

Pension Payments and 401 (k): Savings for retirement, to which the employer might contribute a certain amount.

Other Premiums: Additional payments for specific roles or skills, like leadership roles or specialized team functions.

Shift Differentials: Extra pay to attract workers to certain shifts

Balancing these components can be challenging, as it requires weighing the immediate and long-term benefits of each against the others. What's more important can differ significantly among workgroups and individual employees, depending on their unique needs, life stages, and financial goals.

Remember, the things we've listed are just part of what you get in your total pay package. Some extras like overtime, choosing to skip overtime, penalties for mandatory overtime, and double pay for extra hours aren't mentioned here. That's because they're not always part of your basic pay.
