Election Information

District Lodge 141 has entered into a Voluntary Compliance Agreement with the United States Department of Labor – Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS). The IAMAW, International President recalled District Lodge 141 By-Laws. District Lodge 141 By-Laws, Article VIII has been modified to address compliance issues with the United States Department of Labor – Office of Labor-Management Standards. In addition, dispensation has been granted by the International President to adjust the dates for notification to members, nominations and endorsement vote of the 2018 Officer election. This election is being supervised by the Department of Labor, OLMS.

Election Notice

District Lodge 141 will conduct an election on June 8, 2018 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm for the following positions:

(1) President/Directing General Chairman (four-year term)
(1) Secretary-Treasurer (four-year term)
(1) Vice President – East (four-year term)
(1) Vice President – West (four-year term)
(4) Vice President – At Large (four-year term)
(1) Vice President – Guam (four-year term)
(1) Vice President – Hawaii (four-year term)
(3) Trustee (four-year term)
(24) Assistant General Chairpersons (four-year term)

Nomination Process

We expect to mail the Notice of Nomination and Election to members in December 2017 for the officer positions listed above.

A special nomination meeting will be held in each Local Lodge on January 20, 2018 from 6:00 am to 8:00 am and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. For this supervised election, District Lodge 141 members may submit written nominations to their respective Local Lodge Recording Secretary, by mail only, to be received no later than January 20, 2018.

Eligible members wishing to receive an absentee nomination request (or nomination endorsement ballot) will be subject to the same criteria as the absentee ballot eligibility requirements, see Absentee Ballot Process.

A standardized nomination form will be included in the combined nomination election notice mailed to all members in December 2017.

Nomination Locations

Local Lodge Endorsement Vote

The nomination endorsement vote (if necessary) will be held on February 10, 2018 from 6:00 am to 8:00 am and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The District Lodge 141 Secretary – Treasurer must receive all absentee endorsement ballots in the mail no later than Saturday February 10, 2018.

The order of the nomination endorsement vote ballot shall list the incumbents first and then all remaining candidates in alphabetical order. Local Lodge endorsements will be determined by a plurality of votes for each contested District Lodge office. In the event of a tie, a recount will immediately take place and if still tied, a Local Lodge Teller will conduct a coin toss to determine the winner.

Return of Endorsements Form

Within five (5) days after the close of the nomination endorsement vote, the Recording Secretary of the Local Lodge shall forward to the Secretary-Treasurer of the District Lodge, by express mail, a list of all endorsements upon the forms provided them by the District Secretary-Treasurer.

All endorsements for nominations in order to be tabulated must bear a postmark of not later than five (5) days after the close of the nomination endorsement vote and mailed to the address below:

The Local Lodge Recording-Secretary will be required to fax a copy of the Return of Endorsements Form at of the close of an uncontested nomination meeting or the end of tabulation of an endorsement vote tally to the fax number below.

Election

Voting for District Lodge 141 officers will be held on June 8, 2018 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Local Lodge polling sites.

Absentee Ballot Process

District Lodge 141 Secretary-Treasurer will handle the requests for absentee ballots. All requests must be made singly, in writing, by the requesting member and delivered by mail to the District Secretary Treasurer. The process and timelines for requesting an absentee ballot for the June election will be outlined in the December mailing.

All members’ requests for absentee ballots must be mailed to District Lodge 141 at the following address:

Members can utilize the Absentee Ballot Request Form that will be enclosed with the official Notice of Nomination and Election or clearly provide the following information in a written request:

1) Purpose of request: June 2018 District Lodge Officer Election.
2) Requestor’s name, street address, city, state and zip code.
3) Requestor’s Local Lodge number.
4) Requestor’s Company/Airline, Department, and IAM Book Number.
5) The request must indicate which of the following absentee ballot eligibility requirements have been met:

1) Members who reside in outlying areas more than 25 miles from the designated balloting place.
2) Members who are at work during the times of the local lodge balloting.
3) Members who are either confined because of illness or injury.
4) Members who are on leave qualifying under U.S. and/or Canadian family leave laws.
5) Members who are on vacation and retired members more than 25 miles from their residence on election day.
6) Members who are on official IAM business approved by the local, district or Grand Lodge.
7) Members who are on an employer travel assignment.
8) Members who are on reserve military leave.
