Contract
Three reliable sources
Count on these reliable sources of information throughout United negotiations or talks with any carrier. Thanks for staying informed, and for reading the real stuff.
- iam141.org (or iam141.org/contract) – the official web site of IAM District 141.
- Messenger – the quarterly newsletter from IAM District 141.
- 141 Updates – Download here in pdf format, or obtain from your Committee Chairperson. You can distribute 141 Updates freely to other Members.
existing contracts
District 141 expects to make available online the contract(s) with United Airlines. The target date for publishing United Airlines contracts online is late February 2009.
The US Airways contract will also be published. A review has revealed flawed contract language that occurred when US Airways or its printer published the contract. Once that language is corrected, the results will be published in book form and also here online.
purpose of contracts
The contract seeks fairness in the workplace in the event of dispute between Members and the companies for whom they work.
Contracts also seek to negotiate the best possible terms for Members. Contracts negotiated with airlines never expire. They do become “amendable” at the conclusion of the contract period. Typically negotiations will begin in advance of that date, as with United Airlines. That contract is amendable effective December 31, 2009 and talks are underway effective April, 2009.
Member Airlines
In addition to representing Members at Mileage Plus, District 141 represents airline workers at United Airlines, US Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, and Philippine Airlines.
Chairpersons Conference
The annual Chairpersons Conference is often scheduled in the late winter, in a location that changes each year. Local and District leaders assemble to address upcoming challenges, which this past year included a heavy emphasis on contract strategy for United negotiations.
The most recent Chair Conference was held in New Orleans, on January 27–30, 2009.
Community action following the New Orleans conference consisted of 141 Members aiding the reconstruction of Ninth Ward playgrounds for kids, in an effort to rebuild that community, as District 141 rebuilds itself.
