Fleet Service Negotiations

Fleet Service Negotiations Update
April 1, 2016:

Sisters and Brothers,

The Joint Association Fleet Committee met in Dallas this week and exchanged the following proposals with the company:

  • Hours of Work
  • Recognition of Rights and Compliance
  • Grievance Procedures
  • Meal Periods
  • Leaves of Absence
  • Shift Differential/Shift Definitions
  • Training, Travel and Meal Per Diems

We are pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement on the Training, Travel and Meal Per Diem article.

Despite this progress, unfortunately, the company did hold a meeting this week without inviting Association representatives, and actually left a bargaining session in order to attend.

Unbeknownst to the negotiating team, Robert Isom, American Airlines’ Chief Operating Officer, conducted a town hall meeting on Tuesday in Dallas without notifying any of our team members. American’s Director of Employee Relations, Jim Weel—who is part of the company’s M&R negotiating team and attended the session that morning—left the bargaining meeting in order to attend the town hall. This lack of transparency and commitment to the bargaining process will not be tolerated.

It is clear that American Airlines is not providing the membership with entirely accurate information, and that they are employing common management tactics to disrupt negotiations. While Mr. Isom assures us that the company is not holding up the process, they continue to offer our negotiation teams proposals which do not recognize the role our members have in sustaining American’s profits – and those are proposals that we will not accept.

Our future Fleet negotiations dates and locations are as follows:

  • Week of April 11 in DFW
  • Week of April 25 in DCA
  • Week of May 9 in DCA
  • Week of May 16 in DFW
  • Week of May 23 in DFW
  • Week of June 13 in DFW
  • Week of June 20 in DCA
  • Week of June 27 in DFW

We will continue to provide updates to membership following each negotiation session, and appreciate your continued patience and support.

Fraternally,

Mark Baskett, Mike Fairbanks, Pete Hogan,

Tim Hughes, Mike Mayes, Steve Miller,

Fleet Service Contract Talks Continue This Week in DFW

Sisters and Brothers,

The TWU-IAM Association Fleet Service Negotiating Committee passed the Company the following proposals this week:

Hours of Work – the Association passed the first proposal to the Company on this article.

Meal Periods – the Association passed this proposal to the company and we are awaiting their response.

Recognition of Rights and Compliance – the Association passed this proposal to the company and are awaiting their response.

Training, Travel Pay and Meal Per Diem – the Association passed this proposal to the company and are awaiting their response.

To date, the Fleet Committee has tentative agreements on the following Articles:

  • Representation
  • Field Work
  • System Board of Adjustment
  • Uniforms
  • Absence from Duty
  • No Strike No Lockout
  • Fitness for Duty
  • Bulletin Boards
  • Probation
  • Safety and Health
  • Purpose of Agreement
  • Preamble

The Association received notification regarding the profit sharing announcement moments before it was released. We are still awaiting plan details and will communicate those to the membership once they are received.

The Association continues to make steady progress and will be meeting again next week in DFW; there are an additional nine weeks scheduled with the company.

We thank the membership for its continued support and solidarity as we progress in these joint contract negotiations.

IAM District 141 and United Agree to Equal Pay for ALL Locations

IAM District 141 and United Agree to Equal Pay for ALL Locations

IAM District 141 and United Agree to Equal Pay for ALL Locations 09 March 2016

IAM District Lodge 141 today is pleased to announce that the Union and United Airlines agreed, as part of the limited issue negotiations, to immediately restore the wage rates of IAM-represented workers whose wages were lowered during United’s “market competitive sourcing process.”

The negotiated wage hike will apply retroactively to February 21, 2016 and will apply to the following locations: BIL (Billings, Montana), IND (Indianapolis), KOA (Kona), LIH (Lihue), OGG (Maui),RNO (Reno, Nevada), SAT (San Antonio), SJC (San Jose, California) and TUL (Tulsa, Oklahoma), as well as for above-the-wing employees at ATL (Atlanta), MCI (Kansas City, Missouri), RDU (Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina), RSW (Fort Myers, Florida), SMF (Sacramento, California) and STL (St. Louis).

Whether one works in a hub or smaller line station, the same pay scale should apply. I am encouraged by United’s willingness to address the IAM’s concerns regarding this very important issue of fairness.

I would like to thank IAM members all over the United system, in big stations and small, for your support and solidarity. You spoke loud and clear on this issue and demanded it be rectified. This is an example of the fruits of a strong collective voice coupled with the Union and Company working collaboratively toward making necessary changes that positively impact the lives of IAM-represented workers at United Airlines.

We look forward to continuing limited issue negotiations with United and focusing next on improving job scope/security.

In solidarity,

Mike Klemm
